Model:
Trinity-Ashikaga Class III 'Kariudo' Cybernetic Augmentation

Ownership:
Exclusive rights to Bloodhound Acquisition Services.

Manufacturers:
Joint production between Trinity Medical Services and Ashikaga Warriors Incorporated.

Intent:
As a premium, top of the line provider of acquisition services, Bloodhound Acquisitions is willing to pay a high price to remain competitive against its rivals. It also serves as a plot point to other Bloodhound operators due to its permanent, detrimental side effects.

Type:
Cybernetic Augmentation

Power Supply:
'Kariudo' is powered by a small, efficient energy cell attached to the patient's heart. It utilizes the heart's rhythmic motion to power itself, following similar principles to wave motion energy generation. This subsequently means the energy cell produces more power when the user's heart is beating faster than average.

Features:
  • Enhanced Tracking Suite
  • Biomedical Injection Suite
  • Neural-wave Monitor
Description
Each Bloodhound Acquisitions 'representative' undergoes a series of augmentation surgeries after their training program, increasing their efficiency on the field. Most of these are mundane enhancements such as skeleton reinforcements, a datajack, biomonitors: the 'Kariudo' represents the most intrusive enhancement for an operative in the beginning of his career. In the words of seasoned hunters, it is the mark of a hunter, and the point of no return from a life of wanton violence and treachery.
.
The 'Kariudo' essentially replaces the human's spinal chord, eyes, ears and nose. In order of cybernetic enhancements:
  • The eyeballs have been replaced with Trinity Class III Enhanced Photoreceptors. The enhancement provides visual magnification up to x8 times, gamma and contrast adjusters and military-grade night vision modes. It also creates heads up display for the user, providing a private display for database browsing, target identification and an aiming reticule for weapons with a datajack connection. Capable of video recording for combat data analysis or for legal reasons.
    .
  • Enhanced olfactory analyzing system, allowing the user to identify common chemical compounds based on smell. The database regularly updates with each system patch. Activates when in contact when traces of unknown compounds are detected.
    .
  • An enhanced auditory capture system allowing the hunter to slowly tune out specific voices during a conversation, or to remove background noises in a noisy environment. It can immediately block out all noise when it detects a sudden increase in decibel levels to protect the user.
    .
  • A neural-wave monitor which is directly linked to the Class III Photoreceptor systems. While it handles analysis for other systems, its main duty is to send various signals to the Trinity Class II Biomedical Injection suite, triggering the release of specific stimulants into the body tied to two scenarios: 1. the visual confirmation of the contract target specified in the memory core and 2. the visual confirmation of combat. It also acts as an isolated databank, storing information downloaded via a physical datajack and updates its information when connected to a Bloodhound Acquisitions terminal. During contracts it stimulates the brain to produce more norepinephrine and acetylcholine to increase the user's attention to detail and enhance their ability to learn.
    .
  • The Biomedical Injection Suite is deceptively simple: upon receiving either one of the signals from the neural-wave monitor it either stimulates the brain to produce more dopamine, glutamate and serotonin neurotransmitters while releasing small amounts into the system at the same time or adrenaline and other combat drugs. It has its own independent monitoring system that allows it to inject a medical cocktail of painkillers into the user's bloodstream when it detects the user is wounded. Its supply of adrenaline and neurotransmitters are refilled upon visiting the Bloodhound's medical suite, and can last for two to three days based on how active the hunter is. The injection suite also carries a smaller dose, but still extremely lethal, of cyanide, triggered only by the release of an encrypted Bloodhound radio signal when an agent has been made 'redundant'.
This means that Bloodhound field personnel equipped with the 'Kariudo' augmentation are able to track their quarries more effectively, and when in combat have greater reaction speeds than the average gunman due to the release of large amounts of adrenaline and other 'stimulants'. The release of 'happy' neurotransmitters upon visual confirmation of a contract's target serves as an incentive for the operator to accomplish their task at hand, promoting a mentality which equates pleasure with a completed task.

Unfortunately this has given Bloodhound hunters with the image of drug-abusing mercenaries as most operators tend to quickly develop an addiction to the sudden rush of emotions they get when they achieve their task. Most quickly develop withdrawal systems after becoming too dependent on their augs for emotional release: many combat-oriented agents undergo further surgery simply to tie in the release of the 'happy' neurotransmitters to the presence of combat, giving further credit to the street stories of drug-abusing Bloodhounds. While certainly not encouraged by the company it is also not discouraged as many of their top agents perform the same upgrades.

Eventually the constant abuse on the person's nervous systems will dull their senses, requiring the full replacement of their CNS, another extremely intrusive surgery. Most agents however perish before reaching that stage, either to combat-related deaths or suicide due to mental degradation.

The 'Kariudo' system comes stock with a Bloodhound Acquisitions identifier chip, allowing other field agents to recognize each other and prevent accidentally killing an operator not involved in a Hunt.
